Overall, the value of imported coffee increased by 41.3% for all importing countries since 2019 when coffee purchases were valued at $31 billion.
Year over year, worldwide coffee imports fell by -10.1% compared to $48.7 billion for 2022.
The top 5 importers of coffee (United States of America, Germany, France, Italy and Canada) bought approaching half (46.4%) of the worldwide total for 2023.
From a continental perspective, customers in Europe bought the highest dollar worth of imported coffee during 2023 with purchases costing $24.4 billion or 55.8% of the global total. In second place were North American importers at 23% while another 15.7% of imported coffee was delivered to buyers in Asia.
Smaller percentages arrived in Latin America (1.92%) excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean, Africa (1.86%), then Oceania (1.6%) led by Australia and New Zealand.
For research purposes, the 4-digit Harmonized Tariff System code prefix for coffee is 0901.
