International sales of palladium exported from all countries totaled US$19.2 billion in 2023.
That dollar amount results from a -14.2% decrease for all palladium shippers over the 5-year period starting in 2019 when exported palladium was valuated at $22.4 billion.
Year over year, global palladium exports plunged -34.8% starting from $29.4 billion starting from 2022.
Palladium is a silvery-white rare metal used to make vehicle catalytic converters, jewelry, timepieces, electrical contacts, surgical instruments, spark plugs and blood sugar test strips. Like gold, silver and platinum, palladium is also reported as bullion with its own currency codes.
Major Suppliers of Palladium on Global Markets
The top 5 exporters of palladium are Russia, United States of America, South Africa, United Kingdom and Italy. By value, that quintet of leading palladium suppliers dominate almost three-quarters (73.6%) of globally exported palladium during 2023.
From a continental perspective, shippers in Europe sold the highest dollar worth of palladium exports during 2023 with shipments valued at $11.5 billion or 60.1% of the global subtotal. In second place were exporters located in North America at 16.7%, ahead of another 11.9% of palladium shipments which originated from Africa.
Smaller percentages came from exporters in Asia (7.8%), Australia and New Zealand in Oceania (0.1%), then sellers located in Latin America (0.06%) excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean.
In international trade classifications, there are two major subcategories of platinum. For research purposes, the 6-digit Harmonized Tariff System code prefix is 711021 for palladium in either unwrought or powder form. Code prefix 711029 represents semi-manufactured palladium.
Unwrought or powdered palladium is the major form of palladium amounting to 89.4% of global palladium exports during 2023. Semi-manufactured palladium reflects a much smaller portion at 10.6%, down from 17.7% in 2022.
