The overall value for globally exported shrimp results from a 11.4% increase from $19.2 billion five years earlier in 2019 but a -12.3% decline from $24.5 billion during 2022.
Values by Type of Exported Shrimps
The value of exported frozen shrimps grew by 11.4% from $19.3 billion in 2019 to $21.5 billion during 2023. Year over year, exports for frozen shrimps fell by -12.3% compared to $24.5 billion during 2022.
In contrast exports of fresh, live, dried, salted and smoked shrimps shrank by -99.95% from $22.9 million in 2019 to $11,000 in 2023. Year over year, the retreat was dramatic down by -99.96% from $29.5 million in 2022.
There are six different Harmonized Tariff System (HTS) codes for shrimps and prawns: 030613 and 030617 for frozen seawater shrimps and prawns; 030616 for frozen freshwater shrimps and prawns; 030623 and 030627 for fresh, salted or smoked seawater shrimps and prawns; and 030626 for fresh, salted or smoked freshwater shrimps and prawns.
Note that codes 030623 and 030626 were obsolete with null values for 2023.

Frozen seawater shrimps generated $19.7 billion in export sales during 2023, increasing via a 12.1% upturn from $17.6 billion in 2019 but went down by -12.7% from $22.6 billion during 2022.

Among the above countries, the fastest-growing frozen seawater shrimps exporters since 2019 were: Ecuador (up 93%), Venezuela (up 83.2%), Belgium (up 56.6%) and the Honduras (up 56.4%).
Those countries that posted declines in their exported frozen seawater shrimp sales were led by: Bangladesh (down -35.7% from 2022), China (down -29.1%), Argentina (down -19.6%) and Malaysia (down -19.2%).

Frozen freshwater shrimps generated $1.79 billion in export sales during 2023, growing by 8.2% from $1.65 billion 2019 but down by -8% from $1.94 billion for 2022.

Exports of freshwater fresh, live, salted or smoked freshwater shrimps equaled just $11,000 for 2023, plummeting -99.95% from $22.9 million worth of international sales during 2019 and shrinking by -99.96% compared $29.5 million for 2022.
Below are the countries that exported the highest dollar value worth of fresh, salted or smoked freshwater shrimps.
- Tunisia: US$9,000 (81.8% of exported seawater fresh, salted or smoked shrimps)
- Trinidad and Tobago: $2,000 (18.2%)
By value, the listed countries shipped 100% of all exported fresh, salted or smoked freshwater shrimps in 2023.
The fastest-growing shipper of fresh, salted or smoked freshwater shrimps was Trinidad and Tobago via its five-year gain of 100% compared to $1,000 back in 2019.
