Global sales for tomatoes exported by all countries totaled US$11.6 billion for 2023.
The overall value of exported tomatoes grew by an average 23.5% for all shipping countries since five years earlier in 2019 when tomatoes shipments were worth $9.4 billion.
Year over year, globally exported tomatoes rose 7.6% compared to $10.8 billion during 2022.
Once again, the world’s 5 most lucrative exporters of tomatoes in 2023 were Mexico, Netherlands, Spain, Morocco and France. That powerful group of suppliers furnished over two-thirds (69.9%) of all tomatoes sold on international markets in 2023.
That percentage belies a highly concentrated core group of tomato exporters. In fact, the world’s biggest exporter of tomatoes Mexico accounted for over one quarter (26.3%) of the world’s exported tomatoes.
From a continent perspective, sellers in European countries sold the highest value for exported tomatoes during 2023 with shipments amounting to $5.1 billion or 44% of worldwide exports. North American exporters were responsible for 33.6% worth, while African suppliers supplied another 11.2% share trailed by providers in Asia at 10.6%.
Tinier percentages originated from Latin America (0.6%) excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean, and Oceania (0.1%) mostly Australia and New Zealand.
