Mexico’s Top 10 Major Export Companies

Below are Mexico’s biggest export companies organized by asset value. Shown within parentheses is the primary industry in which each company operates. Also shown is the change in asset value as of December 2018 compared to 2017.

4. Cemex (construction materials): $29.2 billion, up 0.3%
5. Grupo Inbursa (regional bank): $28.7 billion, up 11.2%
6. Grupo Mexico (diversified metals, mining): $26.7 billion, up 17%
7. ALFA (industrial conglomerate): $19.1 billion, up 12.9%
8. Grupo Televisa (broadcasting, cable): $15.9 billion, up 6.7%
9. Grupo Bimbo (food processing): $13.4 billion, up 12.6%
10. Arca Continental (beverages): $12.6 billion, up 85.6%

The fastest-growing among these major Mexican companies from 2017 to December 2018 were Arca Continental via 85.6%. In second place was another beverages producer Femsa with its 18.2% asset appreciation.

The mildest asset growth was construction materials firm Cemex, which expanded its asset base by 0.3%.

Sales is the life blood of most businesses, particularly for firms that compete on the international stage. Nine of these large Mexican firms increased their year-over-year sales as of December 2018.

10. Grupo Inbursa: $4.5 billion, up 36.4%

Beverages company Arca Continental (up 61.7%) posted the fastest sales ahead of financial institutions GFNorte (up 42.2%) then Grupo Inbursa (up 36.4%).

There was one sales decline year over year, specifically the -1% dip for Grupo Televisa.

Nine of Mexico’s major companies were profitable as of December 2018. The sole business to generate red ink in the last reporting period was industrial conglomerate ALFA via its -$87 million loss.

Mexican firms that expanded their profits at the fastest pace year over year were led by beverages company Femsa via its 84.2% gain. In second place was miner Grupo Mexico (up 53.2%) trailed by regional bank Grupo Inbursa (up 47.2%) then another beverages seller based in Mexico, Arca Continental.

Five of the 10 largest Mexican exports-related companies are based in Mexico’s capital, Mexico City. A pair of other major businesses have their headquarters in Monterrey located in the northeast commercial center of Mexico. Three more large enterprises are found in San Pedro Garza García, a commercial suburb within Monterrey.
