Mass-message request for WLM-Suriname 2024

Hello! I'm one of the organizers for Wiki Loves Monuments in Suriname. Could the follow message be sent out to all of last year's contributors?

Thank you so much and please let me know if I need to add anything! MichellevL (WMNL) (talk) 09:17, 2 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Doing this now. Ymblanter (talk) 19:55, 2 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Revision deletion request

Could an admin possibly delete all earlier revisions of File:'Fighting and taking policy decisions', from a painted scroll documenting the joint Dogra-Sikh invasions of Ladakh, Baltistan, and Western Tibet, ca.1840's.jpg? They contain extensive copyrighted material in the description field (the file itself is in the public domain). Felix QW (talk) 13:59, 5 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Done @Felix QW: although, not very good per en:WP:REVDEL##Large-scale use, as these were several edits. I believe this wasn't too huge here, given there were not much contributors and the all the edits came on a single day. I have revdelled these revisions. Regards, Aafi (talk) 14:41, 5 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much! I would have entirely trusted your discretion either way. Felix QW (talk) 16:09, 5 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Rwandan flag change

Hi! A new user has uploaded a supposedly new flag for Rwanda (Flag of Rwanda.png) and has gone on to change existing articles and templates cross-wiki. I cannot find any information that this flag is valid, so I'm turning to you for help. Their edits on enwiki have been reverted and I will shortly be doing so on smnwiki. - Yupik (talk) 16:28, 5 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Done Deleted, and I'd protect this title. Regards, Aafi (talk) 16:47, 5 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Nuisance vandal in 2603:7080:8C00:B396 range

Anon accounts starting with 2603:7080:8C00:B396 have been persistently doing minor vandalism to File:Brown Derby Restaurant, Los Angeles, Kodachrome by Chalmers Butterfield.jpg (history). I've considered just protecting that file, but thought that might just get them to change their vandalism target to something not on my watch list. Is there a way we can block 2603:7080:8C00:B396 range? -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 19:51, 5 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

  Done I soft-blocked Special:Contributions/2603:7080:8C00:B396:0:0:0:0/64 for 3 months. Yann (talk) 20:21, 5 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Bot edit war

Two bots are edit-warring at File:Passengers on a Washington State Ferry, circa 1980s (54040757828).jpg. As the uploader, I'm the only admin who is not allowed to hand-review the license and clear this up. - Jmabel ! talk 04:14, 6 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Jmabel,   Done but this edit-war made me laugh. Regards, Aafi (talk) 05:51, 6 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Bus categories and images in Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire

An unregistered user, 217.46.140.107, has made hundreds of unconstructive edits to images and categories of buses in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. S/he has incorrectly made "Category:Carousel Buses (bus company)", "Category:Thames Travel (bus company)", and "Category:City Sightseeing Oxford" sub-categories of "Category:Oxford Bus Company". GoAhead Group has confirmed to me that the three companies are separate; and Carousel and TT are not subsidiaries of OBC; they just happen to share the same directors. City Sightseeing Oxford shares the same depot as TT, but is also separate from OBC.

The same user has also incorrectly removed hundreds of images from "Category:Stagecoach in Oxfordshire" and "Category:Stagecoach Gold (Stagecoach in Oxfordshire)", and moved them to and "Category:Stagecoach Gold (Stagecoach West)". All of them are photographs that were taken before February 2021, when Stagecoach West absorbed Stagecoach in Oxfordshire. It is therefore anachronistic to move them to the Stagecoach West categories.

I took and uploaded many of those photographs. I am also prone to panic attacks and acute anxiety. I am shaking as I type this, and am finding it very hard to deal with the unregistered contributor who has made these unconstructive edits. (I suspect it may be a registered contributor, or former contributor, who is using their IP address to avoid being identified. But that is guesswork on my part.)

Please will an administrator stop whoever it is from messing up the categorisation of bus images from Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire? And what is the quickest way to move hundreds of images back to their rightful places in "Category:Stagecoach in Oxfordshire" and "Category:Stagecoach Gold (Stagecoach in Oxfordshire)"? Moving each image individually would take a lot of time and effort.

Thankyou, Motacilla (talk) 10:27, 6 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

FYI: Special:Contributions/217.46.140.107. Regards, Aafi (talk) 10:51, 6 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Also FYI: usually when company A absorbs company B, the category for company B should become a subcat of the category for company A. However, no images should be recategorized. - Jmabel ! talk 20:01, 6 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi all! We are releasing the first version of our external links detection tool, that will help moderators in identifying potentially problematic media uploaded from potentially problematic domains (such as social media networks and/or stock image suppliers).

If the source corresponds to one of such domains, UploadWizard would create automatically a Structured Data on Commons statement source of file (P7482) file available on the internet (Q74228490), with qualifiers “operator (P137) = <the operator of the website where the image originated>” and “described at URL (P973) = <link to source>”. This would make the potentially problematic uploads easily accessible by administrators and moderators.

For the moment, we will be parsing only for a few selected domains and, if needed, the list can be amended by the community to include other domains that are problematic or have a strong probability of being deleted. We could also make it available for the community to maintain the list of domains directly.

If you have questions or suggestions, please write to us in our project’s talk page. (Since I will be travelling in the next days, I might be slow to respond, so please have patience)

Thanks for your cooperation! Sannita (WMF) (talk) 16:36, 6 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
